EMPLOYERS – Frequently Asked Questions on the Career Circus
Q: What is the Career Circus?
A: The Career Circus was designed to provide an alternative to the standard career fair, offering an informal opportunity for college students and second-stage, high growth companies to interact together in order to match highly qualified and talented students with exciting new career opportunities. The Career Circus will create an informal and relaxed atmosphere that will offer multiple opportunities for students and businesses to create meaningful connections.
Q: Who can participate?
A: Any business that has between 10 and 150 employees at the time of registration. The fair is open to all MSU students, regardless of major or academic year. Non-MSU students are also invited to attend, but will be charged a small entrance fee.
Q: How much does it cost?
A: It’s FREE! The only charge of the day will be a minimal parking fee for your car.
Q: What should I expect?
A: You should expect an afternoon of networking with highly talented students who are looking for internship, job and/or networking opportunities.
Q: How should I dress?
A: No suit or tie? No problem. We created this event to be as informal as possible, dress however you feel!
Q: What sort of questions should I ask students?
A: First and foremost, it is important to get an understanding of what the student is looking for and what they are studying. Once that has been established, you can then tell the student about your company and potential open positions. After that, it is important you try to get to know the student in order to evaluate whether they will be a good fit at your company. This can be accomplished in many ways, whether it is talking about what you do, where you went to school or even the weather! The important part is to keep it informal and casual.
Q: Is there any material that I need to hand out to the students?
A: No (unless you really want)! This is not a traditional career fair; there will be no tables (they only create barriers!) between you and the student. You can expect students to offer you their resumes. If you find a student you are interested in further talking with, offer them a business card so that they can follow up with you.
